That was our goal while developing the Icon. Our sport is evolving, three dimensional body flight, speed skydiving, new formation skydiving techniques, record breaking efforts on all fronts; the envelope has expanded and we had to embrace all of this and more.
Comfort, style, and options were a "given", but the Icon had to be more. We had to develop new technology in order to address the current and future needs of skydivers around the world.
Our development team had to consider many things that most of us would rather not think about. Possibilities like: unintentional reserve deployments at high speeds, high g-force spinning malfunctions of main canopies, among others. Not pleasant thoughts, but when designing a new harness/container system, we had to look at every aspect.

After more than a year of testing, the engineers at Sun Path Products Inc, are proud to release the Javelin "Odyssey" harness/container system. In keeping with the tried, tested, and proven reliability of the world-famous Javelin, the Javelin "Odyssey" takes comfort, strength, performance and fashion to a new level. The "Odyssey" was tested under the FAA TSO category C 23 (d), meaning that it has been drop tested to weights in excess of 300 lbs. The new rig features longer riser covers, eliminating any exposure of the main or reserve risers, but not hindering the opening characteristics of the canopy. New "anti-twist" technology main risers, incorporating plastic riser tube inserts, are included. The tubes are of a composition that meets or exceeds the test conditions required by the FAA TSO. The advantage of plastic tubes is that they can be "crushed" in a car door/trunk and continue to function. The new "Odyssey" will also feature the Oetiker clamps, which clamp the release and reserve housings in place, thus eliminating the need for hand tacks. The "Odyssey" will touch you where no other rig can with its new "cut-in" backpad (the lateral straps exit the backpad closer to the center of the main container, instead of at the corners). This feature of the Javelin "Odyssey" allows for the lateral strap to contour around the lower back, keeping the container snug against the jumper. The jumper and Javelin "Odyssey" move as one. High-speed free flyer, competitive formation skydiver, or weekend warrior, the Javelin "Odyssey" stays snugly in place. The Javelin "Odyssey" features a new quilted-look, extra comfortable backpad, affording unsurpassed luxury while sitting in the plane or waiting for your load.
New legstrap geometry is currently under evaluation and will become available as soon as testing is complete. The Javelin "Odyssey" also features split leg straps as standard. By splitting the webbing, and making the leg strap wider, the weight of the suspended jumper is dispersed through a larger area, providing exceptional comfort under canopy. The Javelin "Odyssey" is available in new "space-age" durable fashion fabrics, previously unavailable to the general public. These new fabrics have been tested for over a year, before officially debuting on the 2001 Javelin "Odyssey". These new "space-age" fabrics include a leather-look fabric, available in black, navy, green, and brown. The colorful "houndstooth", a checkerboard pattern, is available in a variety of colors. Also new to the market, is our "Diamondback" fabric, which is a ribbed parapack fabric, where the ribs are in the shape of diamonds. The "Diamondback" is available in six different colors. We will have a limited supply of a funky "hologram" plastic fabric, which will be available for the pop-top and midflaps. Based on the outstanding design of the VECTOR III, The MICRON container secures all risers and pin cover flaps, even in the most radical freefall, without using Velcro. This container is shorter and narrower than the Vector III container. The main pin flap's closing, from the bottom up, protects the pin better, particularly while moving around in the aircraft and during freestyle maneuvers. The Uni-Body construction, while providing a smoother contour profile, also creates a pocketed corner, which safely routes the main bridle to the bottom of the container. This feature is built into the reserve container and protects it during unstable openings. No matter which main pilot chute location you choose, the bridle will be safely hidden and snag-proof. The ergonomically designed harness curves over your shoulders nicely. It provides greater comfort and it fits narrow shoulders well. The Racer series of sport, tactical and tandem harness/container systems is based upon principals which represent the state of the art in mature system design. This line of equipment has been in the field for over 27 years with no major recalls or modifications. Your harness and container is your "Safety System" and as such should garner much of your consideration. Our system mechanics are proven, over fourty thousand customers will vouch for that. With the fastest reserve and the strongest harness why would anyone want anything else? With our incredible number of available options, you can get a rig that's made exactly to your specifications. We design the fit of the harness to your body then we select or design containers to fit your canopies then we combine them to produce sheer comfort. With over 50 container combinations already on the books and an eleven harness sizes to choose from we are famous for our comfort. Our reserve deployment is second to none; we consistently deploy our reserve in half the vertical distance required by most of our competitors. It is not just the external mounting of the pilot chute that makes our deployments so fast it is also the design of the pilot chute itself. Our pilot chute was tested at NASA Ames and found to have a CD of .83, the highest drag efficiency of any pilot chute tested. Over the shoulder sizing on the Racer is unique. We vary this size by one and a half inches from small to medium then again for medium to large. You wouldn't want a large suit of clothes that had a small yoke would you? Racers are lightweight they are in fact the lightest of any rig on the market. How can we be the lightest and the strongest at the same time? Simple we use MIL Spec material and uni-body construction. This technique provides for less fabric to be used and the Mil spec requires stronger fabric. Therefore it is lighter and stronger. Part of that stronger material is the "Black" trace type 13 webbing. We don't use the cheaper yellow trace webbing it isn't strong enough. The hardware used on today's rigs was originally designed for use with cotton webbing. Nylon webbing was developed and Type 13 was designed to replace the cotton webbing and to be compatible with the hardware so as not to slip. The yellow trace type 7 was intended for cargo harnesses. Additionally, our harness is "Fail Safe" in that if the lower stitch pattern were to fail the wearer would not be released. Other designs don't allow for this possibility. At Parachute Labs, we have established our priorities to list safety first and our record shows just that. A no compromise design that has stood the test of time. The only sport rig to be approved for use in British Military aircraft.
